After soaking in the autumn sunshine rays. The question came, “did you get some for me too?” A response resounded from my elderly companion: whose memory is fading. It got me thinking. Chuckling she said, “Nope, I believe we passed it by.”
Passed it by?
Sunshine doesn’t seem like something that can be passed by. It’s either shining on you, penetrating deep, warming the layers or it isn’t on you. All are exposed to some degree. Yet, it cannot be absorbed, stored up, and handed off to another who lacks enough: who didn’t linger in the rays.
“…For He [God] makes the sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and unjust.”
Matthew 5:45 NKJV — Bible
I cannot help but hear a spiritual parallel: sunshine and Son-shine. Time in the sun and time with the Word of God: Jesus.
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12 NKJV — Bible
Admittedly, ten virgins toted lamps: vessels. With this in mind, all eyelids turned down as the bridegroom (whom they awaited) delayed. Upon abruptly arousing from slumber, they found it dark. It was past the time when light came from above in abundance. Consequently a necessary source must burn from within each vessel. In other words, each virgin must have acquired something for later use — while in the light! Matthew 25:1-13 NKJV — Bible
“And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He [Jesus] talked with us on the road, and while He [Jesus] opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32 NKJV — Bible
The story of Moses also comes to mind. He soaked in the Son-shine: abode in “God’s cloud.” Listening to His words so intimately, his body retained something! Upon return, his face even shone so brightly the Israelites were fearful and he veiled it. Exodus 33:7-23 & 34:1-35 NKJV –Bible
Moses tried to share his personal experiences gained from time spent so near God, but couldn’t quite pass it along. Likewise, five virgins were unable to pass on and divide their burn-able resources. Each retained sufficient for themselves but only enough.
Are you rushing through the Son-shine opportunities now. Maybe the rays are too: hot, penetrating your conscience; bright, revealing your heart’s motives; inconvenient, simply hindering “real life.” With all those: things to get done, places to go, people to see, goals to accomplish…
Are the rays passing you by?
Are you passing the rays by?
Ecclesiastes 3 says there is a time for everything.
If fact, Jesus said not to worry about: your life, day to day needs, and accomplishing tasks because God your creator knows all your needs. He says,
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:25-33 NKJV –Bible
